Behaviour (Ethology)

The best veterinary clinic in Gipuzkoa: oncology, endoscopy and pet health plan

Behaviour is a window into the physical and emotional state of animals. In dogs and cats, behavioural disorders are more common than they might seem and, when not addressed in time, can lead to genuinely difficult situations for the animal and its family.
Behavioural medicine covers any alteration of conduct, whatever the context in which it appears: at home, during walks, in social relationships with other animals or people, or even in the veterinary consultation.
Through clinical ethology, we apply rigorous scientific criteria to understand why each behaviour occurs and to design treatment strategies tailored to each case, with the aim of achieving the greatest possible wellbeing for both the animals and their families.
It is essential to bear in mind that behavioural changes are often the first sign that something is wrong at an organic level. That is why we work in close coordination with other specialities —neurology, internal medicine, dermatology, traumatology, cardiology, ophthalmology and feline medicine, among others— since a multidisciplinary approach makes it possible to reach a precise and complete diagnosis.
But our work does not end with diagnosis and treatment. We firmly believe in prevention: we support families from the very beginning, giving them tools to prevent these behaviour problems from appearing.

Some of the problems we may encounter are:
  • Inappropriate elimination (peeing and pooing at home, or outside the litter tray in the case of cats)
  • Aggression (there are many different types, and not all are resolved in the same way)
  • Fear (of noises, of unfamiliar people, etc.)
